The Night That Panicked America
(1975)

The true story of the night that Orson Welles broadcast his version of HG Welles' classic "The War of the Worlds'' on the radio.

The film is divided into two parts. The build up to and broadcast of the play, building the tension and excitement slowly. The other part, featuring the reactions of listeners, capturing the mixture of bravery and self delusion that must have characterised many of the real stories that night.

Premiered on ABC-TV at two hours (with commercials). A subsequent network rebroadcast was cut to fit a ninety-minute time slot.
